Her Early Years

Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir, pronounced Lay-Vay, was born on April 23, 1999. She is from Reykjavík, Iceland, and grew up with her parents and twin sister, Junia. Laufey is of Chinese and Icelandic descent. As a child, she was exposed to a wide variety of music and performing arts. Her mother and grandmother, both violinists, passed down their love of music to Laufey and her twin. Laufey who had been singing for as long as she could remember, began learning piano at age four and cello at age eight. She also took up figure skating and ballet, further expressing her creativity. Laufey continues to bring the passion from her childhood into her art today.

Laufey’s talents were recognised at a young age. At the age of 15, she received the honor of playing with Iceland’s renowned Symphonic Orchestra as a cello soloist. The same orchestra she would later go on to produce a full-length project with. Furthermore, she was able to share her talents as a young girl nation-wide; as she was a vocal finalist and semi-finalist for the programs Iceland’s Got Talent and The Voice: Iceland. Through her adolescence, Laufey would continue to hone her skills through education and further performances at her institutions in Reykjavík. After high school, she left her homeland to chase her dream of performing worldwide. Her first step was studying music at the esteemed Berkly College of Music, again after being recognized with full ride honors.

Laufey Today

The next era of Laufey’s career would define her as a global superstar. In the time since her first album had been released, Laufey went from being an opening act to being a headliner for her own shows. In early 2023, Laufey would release her passion project “A Night at The Symphony”. This was especially meaningful, as it was a full-length project with the very same Icelandic Orchestra she grew up with, and this time she was center stage. Despite her growing audience, she proves that she never forgets her roots.

Another monumental milestone came on September 8, 2023, when Laufey’s third album, “Bewitched”, was released. This album was home to the song many consider to be her “breakout song” or the song the propelled her to mainstream audiences. The song “From the Start” would eventually go on to earn nearly a billion streams, with many songs on that album garnering hundreds of millions of streams across many platforms. This level of success from that album caught the attention of the most prestigious organizations in the music industry. To cap off this stellar year for Laufey, she was awarded a Grammy Award, for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Award.

Her latest album, "A Matter of Time”, would open to much of the same success as her previous works. The follow up tour would be her biggest yet.
