I believe that most people have a natural fascination with history and objects from the past.  I also feel that it is important for professionals in the field to make meaningful connections with the general public.  Many of my most rewarding experiences have been with museums and historical sites that have adopted broad community based programming as a way to connect to wider audiences.

This is why I’m pursuing a degree in Historical Administration at Eastern Illinois University.  Ultimately I would like to hold a position that encompasses both my background and my own aspirations.  I see public history as a link between research and mainstream discourse.  As a museum professional I would like to contribute to the kind of public outreach that can help to realize this potential for local and regional history to reach the wider world.

The past does not repeat itself, but it rhymes.

Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it.
