Technology in Classrooms

The use of technology is vitally important in classrooms.  Students need to understand how to utilize computers, peripherals and other forms of technology.  Having children use different software programs and peripheral devices enable the child to become proficient at an early age.  This will enrich their learning experience and provide them with tools they need to succeed in their future.

As I was searching the web, looking for a teacher's page that showed different math projects that his/her children have done I found Mrs. Nash's Second Grade Classroom.  Mrs. Nash is from Cumberland Elementary School located in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Nash's website has many useful links.  She  begins with a link to internet projects that her second grade students have created.  On the left side of the main page are links to all the projects that have been completed throughout the year as well as second grade curriculum standards.

She also has many sites for the parents too.  At the beginning of the school year she posts a parent letter  which contains valuable information for the coming school year.  This includes a link for weekly  curriculum assignments and upcoming classwork.   Along with these links, she has a Back to School link with tips for making the first day of school stress free.

My favorite part was viewing the children's work where they posted monthly writings on the web.  I am going to be a math
teacher as well as media specialist, so I also looked at the Excel projects her students created.

Mrs. Nash provides an enrichment area for students which she labels the Nashville All Star Club.  This is for students who are interested in exceeding classroom expectations.   There are different areas of questions in social studies, science, linguistics, math, and a miscellaneous category.  The questions have links to helpful web sites.  Children  can achieve different levels of fame, from a one star member to a Hall of Fame member (15 stars) with a star given for each correct answer.
